Yonex invited monopo to redesign and develop the website for Yonex' Legends' Vision. This programme brings together the greatest Legends of badminton to create initiatives that grow the game across the world. 

Yonex invited monopo to redesign and develop the website for Yonex' Legends' Vision. This programme brings together the greatest Legends of badminton to create initiatives that grow the game across the world. 

The ambition of the Legends’ Vision initiative is to represent a vision for the future where badminton is a staple of mainstream sports, fully supported by wide-spread leagues and club systems.

This was a chance to indirectly rebrand the entire sport of badminton. Through the art direction, I wanted to show this vision of the future of the game and celebrate the elements that make the sport so exciting: speed, deception, power, technique and sophistication.

At the heart of the website are 4 editorial pages that dive deep into the pillars of the Legends' Vision programme. We imagined the homepage as a highly-visual menu that introduces you to the 4 different pillars as an entry point to discover the programme.

Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Lee Yong Dae, Peter Gade and Taufik Hidayat stand as true legends among the world’s badminton players, with a wealth of illustrious accomplishments to their names.

⁠We dedicated a special page to them and their achievements through a UI and nagivation that really celebrates their legend status.

If the previous website was centered a lot around the Legends, the challenge for this new version was to show all of the valuable work that was being done beyond the simple fame of the Legends and the exhibition matches they put on. It was time to focus more on the Vision than the Legends.

The website being structured around 4 pillars, I wanted each to be represented by a key visual that would depict a new idea for the future of the game and would become the core visuals of the website.

We collaborated with 3D artist Hashmukh Kerai to create 4 artworks showing badminton in an abstract, stylised and futuristic light. 

If the previous website was centered a lot around the Legends, the challenge for this new version was to show all of the valuable work that was being done beyond the simple fame of the Legends and the exhibition matches they put on. It was time to focus more on the Vision than the Legends.

The website being structured around 4 pillars, I wanted each to be represented by a key visual that would depict a new idea for the future of the game and would become the core visuals of the website.

To show how badminton is an impressive sport, fast, technical and strategic, we developed a series of graphics inspired by data-visualisation and GUI interfaces that conveys this technical and futuristic feeling.

We also designed a series of virtual tickets for the events page which features past and future events of the programme.

Our 4 editorial pages dive deep into the pillars of the Legends' Vision programme. They are rich in content with athlete quotes, photography and graphic illustration. Hidden hotspots open up more content for the users about different players.⁠⠀

Supporting pages give more functionality to the website. The legacies page gives a full overview of all initiatives. The events page, with its virtual tickets, shows an overview of past and future events. The ambassadors page shows all the athletes involved in the programme.
